Great value for money!! Quality is much better than what I expected for the price. There is space for 12 knives in the lid, but it is a tight fit to get 12 of everything else in the vertical grooves. My forks and spoons are a little on the thick side, but not much. So if your set is not really flat, beware the box might not fit a set of 12. Other than that, it is a great buy!!

I have had my set for over 5 years. The pieces get constant use and dishwashing and still look great. I have damaged a couple of pieces due to carelessness on my part causing me to look for replacements. I am so glad Hampton is still making this style because I have no interest in new flatware. I just love these. I think they offer to perfect for both casual and more formal entertaining.

I ordered this from the Gold Box for $19.99. Because of the Farberware brandname and the MSRP of $100., I was more hopeful than I should have been. In retrospect, I think it’s fair to say that Farberware does cookware much better than they do flatware. This is a very basic set, without a lot of esthetic appeal. It would be a big improvement over thrift store mis-matched knives and forks; it’s probably on a par with the less expensive Walmart stainless steel flatware, although these are very lightweight. These spoons and forks really bend easily.

If you are currently hording those plastic-wrapped knives, forks and spoons they have at the fast food chains and saving them to use when you get home for dinner, this is a giant step in the right direction.

Otherwise, I think spending $10. more at a Big Box store, will buy you something much nicer.

For the price, it’s a very sturdy, well-made chest. The drawer slides easily, and you can fit a lot of serving pieces in it. The knife slots on the lid are great – one of my wasn’t punctured all the way through, but I was able to take a sharp knife and fix that. The only drawback is the smell, as another reviewer commented. As soon as you take it out of its wrapping you will get hit with a very strong odor – like turpentine. I’m sure its what they used in the finishing, but I did leave the chest out overnight to air out, and it seems to help. Besides the paint smell, it’s a great chest with lots of room. Thumbs up on the value!

I already had a service for 8 in the Oneida Flight pattern. I needed more. While I was washing my new silverware, I was disappointed to find that the quality is not the same as my original pieces. I checked and Oneida no longer makes their product in the United States. OK, I accept that. What bothers me more is the quality is not nearly the same. Especially, with the knives the weight and even the design is different. If you did not own any of the Flight pattern previously, you might be satisfied. I am not.

The best thing about this style is that it doesn’t get that scratched, dull look right away. I’ve only had my set about a year but the brushed finish keeps it looking brand new compared to a few serving pieces I have in another shiny-finish style. I also like the weight on this set. Some of the cheaper sets feel flimsy but not this one. It is a very nice weight. I also love the fact that it is such a simple design. It is easy to match, perfect for casual or elegant dining and easy to wash (no food getting stuck in elaborate crevices). This is also the best price on the net.

This solidly-made, lovely set of flatware is weighty and elegant, equally at ease for serving breakfast and a gourmet dinner for The Queen. My only criticism is that the knives are, for me, too rounded at the blade end- I would have wished for a more pointed tip and perhaps a slightly better cuttting edge. Yet, all in all, this is a very useful and satisfying set of cutlery- I like it a lot.

I recently purchased a service for 8 from Amazon for a very reasonable price, only to find out that it was, in fact, 18/0 stainless steel prone to rusting and not the 18/8 rust-resistant stainless advertised! I then went to Bed Bath and Beyond and found their items were similarly mismarked! Furthermore, I checked with several Ebay vendors and they all stated that their postings were also accidentally misleading in labeling 18/0 sets as 18/8.

I did research as to the cause of the mixup and found out the following: Two-or-so years ago, Oneida reacted to the rising cost of nickel by making its lower-end lines (among them American Harmony, Sand Dune, and Satin Sand Dune) with no nickel (signified by the /0). Nickel adds rust resistance and luster to stainless steel, and I have read reviews that state that the new stuff is prone-to-rust.

Be careful when reading reviews from owners that were either posted more than two years ago or from owners who state they have had their set for more than two years, because the set they are describing is of much higher quality than that which they are currently selling under the same name! Shame on Oneida, and watch out when purchasing sets marked at 18/8!

I’ve had a couple sets hanging on one rack for 5 years and I use them exclusively. In fact they serve as kitchen utensils because they’re so darn tough. The big spoon makes a great ice cream scoop even in -20 hard Ben & Jerrys. The knives have a flat tip that is great for scraping the bottom corners of cans. Haven’t been able to bend the fork tines while mashing potatoes.
Some places sell the second set without the stand.
Stainless steel. So after washing they can be hung to dry.

I hate to be the one to write the first bad review, but feel I need to. I purchased this set and received it in January 2011, it is now June 2011 and I have rust and white pit marks on 4 of the pieces.

Upon purchase I really liked the set, very elegant and excellent weight, very attractive. I don’t use the set very regularly (maybe once a week), but keep it stored in a regular silverware drawer. Having not used the set in about the past month I had a friend set the table last night and as he was pulling everything out he noticed large pit marks and rust on each knife, and small rust spots on a couple of the forks.

Again, I want to like this set and do, but am terribly disappointed about the pit marks and rust. While still usable right now I fear I’ll need to replace the set in the next couple of months.
